With flat panel TVs now being the standard display for livingroom movie and TV viewing, consumers are torn between what they should buy today. On one hand they have the plasma models which offer exceptional contrast and smooth video playback, but cannot compete with LCD TV’s superior color reproduction and energy efficiency. But on the other hand, LCD TVs until recently couldn’t offer the smooth playback needed to view action and sports without ghosting, motion blur and artifacts. So what is a consumer to do? You could say they were damned if they chose plasma due to its power consumption that is close to double that of an equivalent sized LCD model, but without it, they could fully take advantage of any viewing experience that involved fast movements (sports, action, etc..).

In fact, this has been the only thing holding LCD TVs back from dominating the market…..until now. Lately all major LCD TV manufacturers have been releasing 120hz models which essentially refresh the screen twice as fast as the 60hz the eye is capable of processing and thus leading to smooth ghost-free viewing experience.
